Eltham Film Night – Shoplifters

A film with multiple awards including Cannes Film Festival's top prize (Palme d'Or) and a 2019 Academy Award Nomination. A Japanese couple stuck with part-time jobs and hence inadequate incomes avail themselves of the fruits of shoplifting to make ends meet. However, this unusual routine is about to change from care-free and matter-of-fact into something more dramatic when an unforeseen incident occurs. A film that’s understated yet ultimately deeply affecting.
