‘Expressions of Peace,’ is an arts-based, participatory event that invites community to come together to celebrate International Peace Day. The event is an offering to community by Cygnet Centre for Peacebuilding and Transformation, and will include a Welcome to Country, a Corroboree by Gifted Murris Unit (GMU), collaborative arts activities and a closing ceremony featuring music, song, and the creation of a ‘Peace Tree.’

GMU is owned and operated by David and Mark Peters, Pititinjara men who are proud to be able to share ancient lore and culture, connecting and facilitating while maintaining a safe space for people of all cultural backgrounds to learn and create. They place a high value on sharing personal stories, experience and culture to enhance self-determination, respect, spirituality, wellbeing, and healing for self and others.

Community art and craft activities, including making peace flags and talking sticks, a collaborative canvas, and the creation of messages of peace for the Peace Tree will take place throughout the afternoon. Responding to the enthusiasm for further dialogue that grew from last year’s Peace Day event.

Cygnet will also facilitate a talking circle focused around peace, inclusion, and reconciliation during the afternoon. Participants will be invited to hang their wishes for Peace on the Tree as part of the closing ceremony for the event. Tickets can be purchased, along with optional afternoon tea, through TryBooking.
