Sydney-based singer-songwriter and piano player Frances Madden will be in Melbourne for one show only on Friday 6 December as part of the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival.

Frances is one of Australia’s most popular young performers—she has been described as 'one to watch' by ABC Jazz's Mal Stanley and 'a rising star of jazz and blues' by Sydney's Fine Music 102.5 FM. She recently completed recording her second studio album with Melbourne’s ARIA-Award winning producer Chong Lim AM, to be released early next year.

Frances' music is jazz-oriented but with a broad adult contemporary appeal. She captivates her audiences with a combination of her genuinely warm stage presence along with a voice and style that are uniquely her own. When she performs her own original swing and beautiful ballads, they merge seamlessly with the timeless classics she covers.

Frances has performed at major festivals including Wangaratta Jazz, Sydney International Women's Jazz, Manly Jazz, Hobart Festival of Voices, Devonport Jazz and Tamworth Country Music. She plays to capacity audiences at Australia’s best venues for jazz-influenced music including The Basement and Foundry616 in Sydney, Birds Basement and the Paris Cat in Melbourne, and the Doo-Bop Jazz Club in Brisbane. Frances has also headlined at the renown JZ Club in Shanghai and supported international artists visiting Australia, including the legendary Dionne Warwick and Grammy Award winner Gregory Porter.

Along with Frances on vocals and piano, this one-off show as part of the MWIJF will feature an all-star Melbourne band including:

Sam Lemann - guitar
Tom Lee - double bass
Daniel Farrugia - drums
Lachlan Davidson - tenor saxophone
Harriet Allcroft - backing vocals
