Sydney gets set to celebrate linguistic diversity.

Sydney will celebrate German Language Day on Saturday October 26 showcasing all things German, complete with interactive expert panel of linguists who’ll share their insights into bilingual learning. Visitors will also have the opportunity to compare the German language of today with original texts written and published by Martin Luther in 1517, while writing their own personalised messages in the same written style as the influential figure.

Moderated by experienced German journalist, Trudi Latour visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the Q+A style panel discussion which will consist of highly regarded professionals in their field and led by Professor Ingrid Piller. Piller a professor of Applied Linguistics at Macquarie University has released extensive research publications on the benefits of bilingualism as well as boasting qualifications in intercultural communication, language learning, multilingualism and bilingual education. Along with her colleague Dr Hanna Torsh, a representative from the German International School Sydney—visitors will discover the many benefits of bilingualism including the cognitive benefits such as increased performance in multi-tasking, decision making and problem solving while also portraying better traits of adaptability.

Hosted by the German International School Sydney the festival will also offer an array of valuable information on how to learn and study the German language both locally and in Germany. Language enthusiasts of all ages (even the youngest ones) will find plenty to keep themselves entertained when German Language Day comes to Terrey Hills on Saturday 26th October with a selection of native food to enjoy as well as activities and entertainment including a German family friendly movie.
