Afro-beat heavyweights Highlife play LazyBones Lounge Restaurant & Bar in Marrickville Saturday July 27th on their 'Waiting' single launch tour, joined by West African virtuoso Bassidi Koné. The tour brings Highlife to Sydney for the first time straight from a run of showcase gigs on the World Stage at Splendour in the Grass!

Highlife are a Queensland Music Award winning world music act who have gained a reputation as a powerful force in the Australian live music scene after captivating the crowds at Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, Island Vibe Festival, Earth Frequency Festival and many more. Their sets are well known for being relentlessly high energy and commanding the attention of the audience with a unique genre-bending style known as 'afro/psych' which fuses afro-beat rhythms with psychedelic funk and progressive trance.

Joining Highlife, and for the first time in Sydney, is Bassidi Koné.

"Traveling from his culturally rich and vibrant homeland of Mali (West Africa), following in the footsteps of great artists before him such as Salif Keita, Oumou Sangare, Toumani Diabate and Rokia Traore, virtuoso drummer and balafonist, Bassidi Koné, now brings his shining spirit and awe inspiring musical expression to Australia." - Multicultural Arts Victoria, Melbourne, Australia

Highlife's latest single 'Waiting' is the follow up to 'Aware', which won a Queensland Music Award for best song in the world music category and ‘Sing My Soul’ featuring Bassidi Koné on Balafon. The album is being mixed by Paulie Bromley, an Aria winning producer well known for his work with George, The Beautiful Girls and Bobby Alu among many others.

Doors/restaurant 5pm.
