The body employs a non-verbal language through our faces, our gestures, what we wear and our adornments. For NAIDOC 2019, a range of established and emerging Indigenous artists tell a story of standing strong and proud, sharing and celebrating their heritage and culture.

The exhibition combines video, photography, painting and fashion as it explores language as part of the Naidoc theme. Visual Art is a pictorial language that communicates universally. These artists look back at traditions and histories, retelling old stories with reference to the past but placing themselves very much in the present with their contemporary techniques and evolving identities.

Christopher Pease, Dennis Golding. Kylie Graham, Debra Miller, Brenda L Croft, Mary Mclean, Darren Stockwell, Katie West and the Yokayi girls from Girraween Senior High with a must-see special presentation from The Bilya Koort Boodja Centre for Nyoongar Culture and Environmental Knowledge in Northam—a collaboration between media artist Sohan Ariel Hayes and dancers from the Northam Clontarf Academy, along with Nigel Wilkes, Kirk Garlett, Darryl Bellotti, Deborah Moody, Richard Walley and more.
