If you are thinking that improving your memory is going to be something that just happens, it is not. It is going to take some time to improve it. Learning how to improve or learning how to memorize things better and faster, this is no different than starting a diet plan or going to the gym. You need to set aside some time to practice the tips and techniques that you learn.

Everyone learns things at their own pace and have their own style of learning and remembering. The human brain is similiar to that of a computer. When you put information in your memory in a disorganized manner, it is like a computer’s memory being fragmented and scattered around. Now when we start memorizing things and cataloging them in particular files, we will have a better chance remembering them. So you can develop a photographic memory.

If you do a search online on how to improve your memory, there are many places to look. You will find ideas on how to do this and you will also find many memory book. The problem is being able to sift through the information. You will find out that there are three basic stages of memory; acquisition, consolidation and retrieval.

What happens when we aquire new information, let’s use a documentary for example. The topic interested you, this is an important aspect of memorization which is interest and focus. You will then try to consolidate this information with similiar memories.

Techniques, Tips to Improve Memory

Here is an example. You knew something about the topic at hand, but the documentary provided accentuating facts. You then let these new pieces of information fall into place that will connect to the information that you already knew about. What happens then is the retrieval portion of memory, and this is where the tips and techniques come to fruition.

A lot of the tips and techniques that help us improve our memory fall under common sense. Let’s look at it this way. If you take the time to pay attention to some fact or idea that you want to memorize, then you mind is going to be focused on it, and you will commit more of it to memory. Try to use as many of your senses. The more senses that you involve, the better your chances of remember something.

Here is another example. You have an idea and you want to remember it. You start to write down this idea that you have. Just the act of writing something down, requires that your mind focus on the act of writing. Also, it forces the mind to think about what it is writing and so you include more of your senses when committing this fact or idea to memory.

There are some other ways to commit things to memory. Another way is mnemonic devices. These can be helpful when memorizing. They are rhymes, acronyms and even visual images. All of these are very helpful techniques and tips to improve your memory.
