From age-old ghost stories to chilling tales from the spirit realm, the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) presents a free classics program featuring spine-tingling horror from 21 September to 26 November. Titled Grief and Vengeance: Otherworldly Tales in Sydney, with abridged versions in Melbourne and Canberra, the program features landmark films from Japanese horror pioneer Nobuo Nakagawa, alongside contemporaries Masaki Kobayashi and Satsuo Yamamoto.

2019 Japanese Film Festival Classics films featured in Melbourne include:
- The Bride from Hades
- Kwaidan
- Black Cat Mansion
- The Ghost Story of Yotsuya

Free admission. Tickets available at the cinema from one hour before each screening. A small allocation of early-bird tickets can be booked in advance from Eventbrite (pre-bookings available from 30 September, 9am).

Under 15s must be accompanied by an adult.
