Trivial, sometimes obscure everyday matters are placed into the absurd by Taipei-based interdisciplinary artist Joyce Ho. Her painting, installation and video works have been internationally exhibited and admired for their striking aesthetics, saturated planes of colour and thought-provoking details.

Joyce Ho’s superb vision delineates the intimate yet distant relationship and tension between people and reality. Her creations offer unusual atmospheres and strange situations that are at once uneasy, seductive and playfully humorous.

Her uncanny takes on gender roles, bureaucratic control and cultural conventions are simultaneously enveloping and confronting. As she explores the restrictions, desires and emotions that human beings experience, Joyce Ho’s works open up a space where mistakes, errors and imperfections are allowed not only to exist, but to evolve into unexpected stories.
