Two-time Queensland Music Award winners MZAZA provide Balkan French sounds for sophisticated folk lovers around the world. Lead by enchanting French-Sephardic vocalist Pauline Maudy, these incredible musicians from Bosnia, Latvia, Greece, France and Australia will mesmerise you with inspired performances. Driven by their eclectic backgrounds and influences the members of MZAZA will take you on a musical ride that taps into the beating heart of humankind.

Following on from the success of their previous studio album releases ‘Journey Over Skin’ (2011) and ‘Ghosts’ (2015) the group has recently returned from recording a third studio album at Sierra Studios in Athens with engineer Vangelis Lappas due for release early 2020.

With accordion, violin, shah kaman, guitar, double bass and percussion, MZAZA embraces diversity, the old and the new, the familiar and the foreign. It is the timelessness of the music and stories that fuels an intense live show, that has enraptured audiences across Australia and Europe. MZAZA have performed at MONA FOMA, Queensland Music Festival, Cygnet, National and Woodford Folk Festivals, and visited airwaves internationally. Jaw-dropping technique, unique compositions and captivating shows have earned Mzaza supports for the likes of Baba Zula (Turkey), Violent Femmes (USA), and DJ Click (France).

Intense live shows showcase MZAZA’s phenomenal gift of reinventing musical traditions, creating something new from the old. This band of friends has found each other at the end of the world to make music that blurs boundaries. Its members are excellent musicians who relish a direct and celebratory connection with audiences.

MZAZA invite local musicians to join them for either a World Music Singing Workshop or a World Music Instrumental Workshop which will take place also on 23/08 from 4-5pm at the Emerald Town Hall. Participants will learn a French, Ladino or Balkan song and will also be invited to perform the song with the band during the show. To register your attendance at the free workshops please contact admin@mzaza.com
