Experimental pop band On Diamond launch their highly anticipated, self titled debut album Thursday May 30th at The Gasometer Hotel with special guests Music Yared and Soft Rubbish.
Combining the pop song form with an improvisatory freedom of expression, five piece On Diamond are a genre breaking act lead by songwriter/vocalist Lisa Salvo. The band's energetic sound is made up of cascading melodies, unfettered effects and an interactive group dynamic.
Following on from Lisa’s debut album I Could Have Been A Castle (released digitally 2014 and on vinyl 2015 via Eastmint Records), the band evolved into a more collaborative project, moving further away from a conventional pop sound and into the avant garde, while firmly anchored by incisive songwriting.
On Diamond's debut LP is a perfect snapshot of their work, a journey into the subconscious expressed outwardly in chaos and beauty.
On Diamond are:
Lisa Salvo - vocals
Scott McConnachie - guitar
Hannah Cameron - guitar/vocals
Maria Moles - drums
Jules Pascoe - bass
Music Yared
Music Yared features Haftu Reda, originally from the Tigray region of Ethiopia, and Anbessa Gebrehiwot from Ethiopia and Eritrea. They sing and play the traditional instruments krar (5-string lyre) and masinko (single string violin). Joining them are Melbourne multi-instrumentalists Evelyn Morris on keyboards and percussion and Dale Gorfinkel on percussion and balafon (xylophone).
With a focus on Haftu and Anbessa’s East African cultural heritage, Music Yared also embraces new sonic territories with a beautiful modesty, camaraderie and a deep groove.
Soft Rubbish
Fronted by powerhouse Julie Montan, Soft Rubbish are a four-on-the-floor mix of vox, electric tenor, distorted bass, ARP Odyssey and drums delivering a roller-coaster of pagan anthems to fire up your core; a post-punk, psych-pop meltdown, encapsulating the growing sentiment of rage against late stage capitalism and its failings.
On Diamond is out now on Eastmint Records.
