Join artist printmaker and well known tutor Hannah Parker, at this workshop which will cover elementary techniques used in etching such as hard ground, soft ground, white ground & spray aquatint.

During the process of developing the aluminium etching plate, other printmaking techniques may also be introduced. The class is suitable for beginners and advanced as work will proceed at an individual pace.

Places limited to 10 - materials included.

What to bring: Notebook and pencil, sketches and basic drawing materials, lunch, personal insect repellent. Wear closed-in shoes and tie long hair back.

Course outline

Week 1:
- Introduction to Intaglio printmaking, Health & safety within the studio space & demonstration of the use of the presses. Examples of various prints will be examined and the processes in each one discussed and explained.

- Participants images will be discussed and possible techniques suitable to enhance the images in the form of etching will be examined.

- Plates will be prepared and readied for commencement of work.

Week 2
- Work on the plates will be continued and the process of etching the plates will start.

- Work will continue with each participant at their own pace, I will be working with each individually concentrating on their own ideas and aspirations.

- There is no set number of plates to be finished by the end of the workshop, it is purely a workshop for learning intaglio and requiring a firm understanding of the process & experimenting with the medium.

- By the end of the workshop each participant will be competent in the use of the studio & presses and able to work with confidence in the medium of etching.

Weeks 3-7
Work will continue at an individual pace, during this time demonstrations on printing and editions will take place.
