Southern Explorer Day Cruise

Journey with us into the far south. Explore the d’Entrecasteaux Channel and beyond on this full-day guided cruise.

Discover a region of contrasting landscapes and natural wonders—a land nurtured by the first Tasmanians for over 2000 generations, and first visited by the French in the late 18th century. Listen to stories about ports once bustling with industry, where both free men and felon worked side-by-side, harnessing the natural bounty of the surrounding land and sea.

Our 23m catamaran (Peppermint Bay II) will depart Hobart’s Brooke Street Pier at 9am and head down river, passing the spectacular sandstone formations of the Allum Cliffs and rare dolerite boulders near Tinderbox, here we slip down the d’Entrecasteaux Channel to Peppermint Bay.

After morning tea at Peppermint Bay Hotel, we will continue our journey, exploring the southern wilderness and coastal islands of far south-east Tasmania—a unique part of the world rarely seen from the water. Weather permitting, our expedition will venture as far south as Recherche Bay—locally known as Cockle Creek—and take in the spectacular southern mountain ranges.

A grazing style lunch prepared by the Peppermint Bay Hotel kitchen, featuring seasonal produce of the region, will be provided, with Tasmanian wine and beer available for purchase on board.
