An exhibition exploring the lives and experiences of returned South Australian soldiers is set to be on display. The Life. Unley’s Own, Returning Home exhibition marks 100 years since soldiers who served on the frontline in WWI were returning home to resume their lives.

In partnership between the City of Unley and Flinders University, research student Sandra Kearney was able to explore the lives of 100 men, including many from the 1,189 soldiers from Unley who enlisted in the 27th Infantry Battalion known as ‘Unley’s Own’.

The stories of 15 men, and the lives they led after the war, are being shared as part of the exhibition. The exhibition aims to highlight the strength and integrity of each soldier, with their personal story offering deep insight into how the experience is weaved into their family history.

Life. Unley’s Own, Returning Home will be on display from Thursday, May 9 with a launch event at 5pm. The exhibition will be open until Thursday, 3 October 2019.
