Be transported to the theatrical Tenebrae mass of the Paris convent of Longchamp, and delight in François Couperin’s enthralling and mysterious Leçons de ténèbres (Lessons of Darkness), a surprisingly sensual piece, written for Holy Week in 1714. These alluring works are considered among the most beautiful vocal works of the Baroque period.

Ensemble Ancien is a collective of passionate early music specialists devoted to the performance of rare music from the 17th and 18th centuries. This concert will feature Emilia Bertolini (soprano), Alexandra Toussaint-Jackson (soprano), Tom Baldwin (organ), Nicholas Pollock (theorbo) and Laura Vaughan (viola da gamba). Ensemble Ancien’s stylistic interpretations present the true elegance and charm of the early music genre.

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre & Ensemble Ancien.
