Born in 1819, Mary Anne Evans, under the nom de plume of George Eliot, was writing novels which were ccritically acclaimed and she is now widely considered to be one of the greatest writers of the Victorian era.

200 years on, as a mark of the anniversary of her birth, a wonderful group of performers and musicians including; Jenny Davis, Bernie Davis, Irene Jarzabek and Anthony Howes will come together, for the 8th consecutive year, and volunteer their time and talents to present “True Seeing is Within”, the life and words of George Eliot.

Eliot’s works were revered for the depth of understanding and psychological insight she displayed in her characters, which reflected her passion for justice and equality for workers and the poorer members of society.

This is a fund-raising event with all proceeds being donated to St Bart’s, supporting people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Given her concern for social issues and the disparity between rich and poor, all which still exist today, Eliot would certainly have approved!

"True Seeing is Within", written by Jenny Davis, is a wonderful opportunity to discover the story of this Victorian social reformer through verse, performance and a montage of music by John Taylor, from his new musical Silas Marner, based on a George Eliot novel.

This affordable event is not to be missed.

Presented by The Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller and Christ Church Claremont.
