Perth Folk and Roots Club is back in presenting Verandah Folk and Roots with Town of Victoria Park support. All are welcome.

For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Jon Matthews, Cathy Earle and a trio of John McNair, Keith Anthonisz and Paul Homewood.

"The Perth Folk and Roots Club has more great musicians for the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts for Sunday 9th June," said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Jon Matthews is a skilled guitarist who likes playing with western swing, country and jazz influences. Jon recently performed with Lucky Oceans, pedal steel guitarist extraordinaire, former member of the American country band Asleep at the Wheel and US Grammy award winner, at a show called 'What Robert Told Hank in Heaven'. The show featured the songs of American artists Robert Johnson and Hank Williams. Jon Matthews was also part of the Conscious Dreamers duet with Gary James playing folk, americana and roots. In 2016, the duo made their mark on the local music scene with an extensive series of shows and in the Southwest and the launch of their self-titled EP.

Cathy Earle is a solo guitarist with a big voice that demands attention. Recently she performed at the Perth Blues Club, with Direct from Singapore: Danny Loong's Universal Blues with other blues heavy weights Richie Pavledis, The Hot Biscuit Band, Rick Steele, Richie and Marc Gordon. Cathy was also previously involved in performing for International Blues Music Day at the Flying Scotsman in Mount Lawley where she performed with Rick Steele, Pete Romano, Dave Gillam and Steve Garde, John Rando and the Zuchinni Bros, Fiona Heath and John Talati.

By way of background, Cathy originally lived in the Northern Territory where she joined her first band at age seventeen. In the late 80's she moved to Queensland and joined a rock band playing on the circuit from Brisbane to Townsville before becoming finalists in the Qld Rock Awards. She was also contracted in Japan for six months singing in a cabaret show.

"The Perth Folk and Roots Club looks forward to the next Verandah Folk and Roots at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts with Jon Matthews and Cathy Earle," said Keith Anthonisz.
