Verandah Folk and Roots

Perth Folk and Roots Club is back at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts for Verandah Folk and Roots with Town of Victoria Park support. All are welcome. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Jon Matthews and John Howard.

"The Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes some great solo musicians for Victoria Park audiences on Sunday 8th September," said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Jon Matthews is a skilled guitarist who likes playing with western swing, country and jazz influences. Jon recently performed with Lucky Oceans, pedal steel guitarist extraordinaire, former member of the American country band Asleep at the Wheel and US Grammy award winner, at a show called ‘What Robert Told Hank in Heaven’. The show featured the songs of American artists Robert Johnson and Hank Williams. Jon Matthews was also part of the Conscious Dreamers duet with Gary James playing folk, Americana and roots. In 2016, the duo made their mark on the local music scene with an extensive series of shows and in the Southwest and the launch of their self-titled EP.

John Howard is a Perth based singer/songwriter who released his debut 12 track CD ‘So it Goes’ on 1st January 2018. The album was produced with assistance from Mike DeVelta and Alan Dawson of Empire Blues. Johns songs are all in the Folk/Rock/Country genre and Johns musical influences include Mark Knopler, Eric Clapton, JJ Cale, Tony Joe White, and The Proclaimers. The So it Goes CD has been played on Alan Dawson’s “Twilight Zone” program on Fremantle Radio and has had some very positive feedback. John has been playing and promoting his CD at various shows including the Victoria Hotel in Toodyay and the Gas Light Club in Fremantle. John has been a regular supporter of Perth Folk and Roots shows.
