Wellness is a social satire exposing the prejudices our society still allow and encourage in spite of our contemporary ideals of acceptance and inclusivity.

A diverse cast of four grope towards an understanding of how their actions affect the life of one woman, not to mention the repercussions. Wellness is the culmination of a lifetime of experiences crying out for an audience. It is also heart-wrenching and hilarious satire on health and wellbeing in the age of #blessed influencers.

From the mind of prolific Artist-turned-Playwright, Ella Arendelle, comes a thrilling satire shining a light on a cultural perspective on health and a generational obsession with clean living. In a world committed to giving a voice to the voiceless and pushing for equality, Wellness aims to balance the scales, offering up the cperspective of a class of people completely left behind.

Presented as a part of The Butterfly Club’s inaugural 1 Act Play festival in March, Wellness is the culmination of a lifetime of experiences crying out for an audience.

Through a series of vignettes, Wellness shows the experiences that build up across the course of a life—from shopping for bridesmaids dresses to unwelcome messages on dating apps; from dealing with your friend who’s always on a diet to strangers who insist on making things uncomfortably intimate. Wellness is often funny, sometimes tragic and builds an inwardly fractured, presentationally perfect picture of modern-day life.

“Wellness is close to my heart, in part because it’s semi-autobiographical—everything in the play has been inspired by real events in my life,” says Arendelle, continuing “Representation matters. We all deserve to feel seen and share our experiences and I wrote this play to cut into the heart of a pressing contemporary issue.”
