6th Polish Film Festival
Opening night: The Legions

Polish Film Festival in Perth returns to Luna Leederville this spring with a strong line-up of critically acclaimed films from renowned and up and coming Polish filmmakers.
The 6th edition of Polish Film Festival will celebrate Polish culture and cinema from 29 October exclusively at Luna Leederville, showcasing new films from established directors alongside three feature debuts. The 2020 program brings four Australian premieres and four WA premieres.

The Festival opens with one of the most expensive Polish film productions of all time. The Legions by Dariusz Gajewski is an epic historical drama that follows a love triangle set against the backdrop of the heroic struggle of Polish Legions to win independence from Tsarist Russia.

Another highlight of the program is Charlatan, a fascinating biographical drama by three-time Oscar nominee Agnieszka of an exceptional Czech healer who cured thousands with plant-based remedies. The film premiered at Berlin International Film Festival in February and is Holland’s third Berlinale premiere in only four years, following the prize-winning mystery drama Spoor and last year’s biopic Mr. Jones.

Brimming with jazz Icarus. The Legend of Mietek Kosz by Maciej Pieprzyca is a moving drama inspired by the true story of blind piano prodigy Mietek Kosz, starring the brilliant Dawid Ogrodnik with music by one of the most acclaimed Polish jazz pianists and music composers, Leszek Możdżer.

Also screening this year are three feature debuts. 25 years of Innocence, a gripping new crime drama based on real events that shocked Poland and made headlines for many months about a man who had served 18 years in prison for murder before being found innocent. The Iron Bridge by Monika Jordan-Młodzianowska, a dramatic story about a love triangle set in a Silesian mining community. For our younger audience, we have Jacek Piotr Bałwut’s feature debut THE DAY OF Chocolate, a delightful adaptation of the award-winning book by Anna Onichimowska under the same title, about the adventures of Monika and Dawid.

Fans of thrillers will enjoy Servants of War by Mariusz Gawryś.

The 2020 Festival will close with Letters To Santa 4, the fourth chapter of the much loved and widely successful Letters to Santa series, which attracted nearly 9 million cinema viewers with the first three instalments.

The 6th Polish Film Festival in Perth is once again presented by Nicheliving and organised with the financial support of the Consulate General of Republic of Poland in Sydney and the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well the Polish Film Institute. The 2020 event is also supported by Perth Vascular Clinic (Major Sponsor) and Australia Study (Leadership Sponsor). For the full list of Festival supporters visit the festival website.

All films screen with English subtitles.
