Ben Wilcock & The Jelly Rolls are one of New Zealand’s top jazz ensembles. Their recent tour of Scotland included a sold out performance at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, collaborating with top Scottish jazz musicians.

The group will be touring Australia in April with performances in Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. The material includes original jazz compositions from their latest release The Phantom Canoe (Thick Records NZ), an album based on Māori myths and legends. They will also perform music from previous releases such as Sneaky Weasel and Live in Cromwell.

The Jelly Rolls unique brand of swinging piano jazz encompasses the styles of Errol Garner, Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson and Fats Waller. Wilcock, who has performed with the likes of Bennie Maupin, Bob Moses, Aaradnha, and Chris Cain, takes centre stage at the piano. Scottish jazz icon John Rae is on the drums (Ethan Iverson, Vijay Iyer, Tommy Smith, Scottish National Jazz orchestra, Mike Nock), and Dan Yeabsley is on the bass and saxophone (Fat Freddy’s Drop, Twinset).

The Jelly Rolls will be touring Australia for the first time, off the back of headlining the New Zealand National Jazz festival with saxophonist Roger Manins.
