- When Robert Schumann discovered the score of Schubert’s Great C Major Symphony in 1838—ten years after Schubert’s death—he also found a profoundly beautiful symphonic epic, a work which had a far-reaching effect on the future of the symphony. A performance of this supremely human masterpiece automatically becomes an event.
