One of the most effortless ways to meditate is with the use of a mantra. A mantra is ‘tool’ for the mind to stay focused using a word or short sentence either in English or in Sanskrit in order to keep the ‘monkey-mind’ busy to allow yourself to become more calm, experience inner silence and a deep sense of peace.

How does mantra meditation work?
The mantra can be recited out loud, whispered or repeated silently. Sometimes it is repeated fast; at other times slow and at other times in connection to concentration on the breath, certain feelings, chakras, and visualisations or abstract concepts.

What is the purpose of the mantra during meditation?
Mantra meditation has a unique physiological effect, which distinguishes the practice from other forms. In practices such as mindfulness, the brain experiences an increase in gamma waves, a state associated with heightened awareness. In mantra meditation alpha waves ‘wash’ over the brain resulting in a state of restful alertness and is connected with improved learning ability, higher IQ, higher moral reasoning, and increased neurological efficiency. The result is deep rest and heightened mental capacity.

Under the expert guidance of Miriam Van Doorn you will learn specific mantra techniques to assist with your meditation practice.
