The Perth Folk and Roots Club will be celebrating the start of 2020 on Australia Day with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Steve Tallis and Bootleg Al.

"Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes back Steve Tallis from France and Bootleg Al for a Perth Folk and Roots Club show on Australia Day," said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Steve Tallis is Western Australia’s self proclaimed blues shaman who has been performing and recording since the 1960’s and is a major figure in the Perth blues scene. Steve Tallis is well known for a mixture of blues, traditional folk and gospel with a touch of voodoo themes. Steve has produced a number of nationally and internationally acclaimed albums and has also been living and performing in Paris until recently. Steve has lived and performed in the USA, Europe, Mexico and Asia supporting some of the biggest names in music. Influences include Leadbelly, John Coltrane, Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, Tony Williams Lifetime, Van Morrison, Howling Wolf, Tom Waits, Jack Bruce, Kip Hanrahan and Bob Dylan.

African, Indian, Haitian and Islamic music have all had a spiritual and rhythmic influence. Steve was awarded an Arts WA Contemporary Music Fellowship in 2003 to study, compose and tour with master musicians in Africa, India and Greece. His album First Degree released in 2014 has an energetic electric sound from his trusty SG Guitar. Steve has recently returned from Europe and is active in organising the Gas Light Club nights.

Bootleg Al is a trio from different musical backgrounds with a love of blues and country rock. Jack (vocalist, ukulele and guitar player) comes with a brass band, reggae and a jazz background where he played trumpet, Greg (acoustic & electric guitar) comes from a blues rock background having gigged around Perth and Freo for many years and Pas (bass & vocals) played guitar in bands ranging from cabaret to rock. Their musical influences and selection is wide and varied covering songs from early blues; Oscar ‘Buddy’ Woods, Jimmy Rogers, Tampa Red, Brownie McGee, to more recent artists such as JJ Cale, Leo Kottke, Ian Tyson, Robert Plant and Alison Kraus. Their eclectic mix of early blues and a variety of more recent material lends itself to a night of enjoyable listening and a rollicking good time.

"As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience," Keith added.

Please note the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club is hosting the Perth Folk and Roots Club as a free event for its members and guests with memberships offered at a very reasonable cost to Perth Folk and Roots Club supporters.
