Perth Folk and Roots Club is back with live folk and roots music at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club on Sunday 26th July 2020 with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. The performances are from 5pm to 8pm at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club, 1 Stancliffe Street, Mount Lawley. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has the Jook Joint Band and Up and Adam.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club is once again offering live music with Jook Joint Band and Up and Adam at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club ‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Jook Joint Band is a jug band at heart and they have been wowing audiences with their renditions of old time blues, skiffle and ragtime music in and around Western Australia for the past ten years. They are a five piece band and play a variety of instruments in the tradition of jug bands ranging from the jug, washboard, ukulele, 6 & 12 string guitars, acoustic bass, stand up drums and harmonica. Their repertoire draws from an ever growing list of originals plus covers from the likes of Lead Belly, Memphis Jug Band, C.W. Stoneking, Jim Kweskin Jug Band and Blind Boy Fuller. They have played at the Bridgetown Blues Festival, Fairbridge Festival, Boddington Music Festival and throughout the State at many other festivals including the Canning Show, Fremantle Heritage Festival, East Fremantle George St Festival, Waroona Show, Mukinbudin Spring Festival, Folk and Roots at the Perth Cultural Centre to name a few.

Up and Adam is a local Western Australian Clawhammer banjo player, uniquely different in his playing style and presentation. Up and Adam’s style is influenced by old time, mountain style, traditional American folk and roots music. Up and Adam also has a big voice to go with his mountain style music. This emerging artist tells his story with original songs and obscure covers and promises to take you places that you may not expect a banjo to go. Up and Adam also has a collection of banjos including homemade rustic banjos that add to the atmosphere of connecting to a by gone time of mountain folk. Up and Adam live performances include playing at the Roleystone Musicians Club, FolkLore WA, Fremantle Gaslight Club and the Ravenswood Hotel Folk festival. FolkLore WA review of Up and Adam noted, “Armed with a collection of banjos, each one as unique and effective as the next, Up and Adam invokes sounds from a forgotten era that oozes heart, wisdom and soul. Joyfully delivering tales with sounds that erupt deep from the heart of the Appalachian mountains, whilst still sounding fresh and exciting.”

‘As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience’, Keith added.

Please note the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club is hosting the Perth Folk and Roots Club as a free event for its members and guests with memberships offered at a very reasonable cost to Perth Folk and Roots Club supporters.
