Basket weaving has well and truly made a comeback!

Over the past few years, woven baskets have become a key home-styling element. They not only add beauty and character to your home but are also the essence of practicality. Unique artisan baskets take it up a notch for more personality and style than the mass-produced varieties, but they can be pricey.

This is where weaving your own artisan basket comes into its own!

There is a certain feeling of pleasure and satisfaction as you admire and use your own hand-made basket, not to mention the joy of giving a lovingly crafted basket, filled with homemade goodies.

And now you can learn the very satisfying and peaceful craft of basket making at Ashton Park – well known for its art and craft workshops held in the inspiring southern highlands countryside.

Costs include:
- All basket-making material supplied.
- A delicious gourmet country lunch to enjoy while you chat and connect with new friends.
- Take home your brand new artisan basket made by You!
(You may also like to bring materials from your own garden to make your basket even more personal.)

Teacher: Sonja Fernando
Sonja studied fine art and visual culture at Curtin University, with majors in textiles and drawing. However, her practical and curious nature led her to be a maker of things. The process of refining raw materials for practical outcomes fascinates her. Baskets always intrigued Sonja,

“Their incredible practicality and sculptural beauty go hand in hand. To make something to be used every day imparts a special value to the whole process.”

Join Sonja and the Ashton Park team for the rustic basket workshop. Gain new skills, new friends, and take home your brand new artisan basket made by you!

There really are few things more satisfying than placing flowers, veggies, or even eggs from the garden into your very own hand-made basket!
