The Marriage of Figaro

Operantics is thrilled to present our long-awaited production of The Marriage of Figaro at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace’s Walsh Theatre in Cremorne. What began as an opera study project to keep our talented artists busy during the March lockdown has developed into a wonderful show - and we can’t wait to share Mozart’s glorious music with you all once again. COVID-19 regulations prevent us from presenting the full 4-hour opera, so we have developed a fun and fast-paced abridged version of the opera that runs under 90 minutes. Retaining all of the wit, intrigue and mayhem in less than half the running time, it’s the perfect companion to lunch out with friends on a Sunday afternoon.

When Susanna reveals to her fiance, Figaro, that his master, the Count Almaviva, intends to seduce her, exercising a long defunct feudal right, they team up with the Countess Almaviva to expose his lechery. Meanwhile, Cherubino is in love with the Countess and every other woman in the manor, and old Marcellina is determined to make Figaro hers. Cue the intrigue, disguises, jealousy, ridiculous obstacles and high stakes drama of Mozart’s most beloved opera.
