“I’m into, oh, murders and executions, mostly. It depends.” - Patrick Bateman

Patrick Bateman has it all – good looks, the Wall Street job, impeccable taste, and unquenchable homicidal urges.

With impeccable taste and unquenchable desires, Patrick and his elite group of friends spend their days in chic restaurants, exclusive clubs and designer labels. But at night, Patrick takes part in a darker indulgence, and his glitzy, glamorous facade slips away.

Wonderfully disturbing, sickingly funny, and morosely satirical, American Psycho – The Musical is a bold reproduction of the controversial, best-selling novel by Bret Easton Ellis. A pitch-black display of how one man with power, privilege, and money can revel in his most grisly desires and get away with it.

Featuring classic 80s hits from Phil Collins, New Order, and Huey Lewis and the News, plus lyrics from Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale), American Psycho is a revoltingly fun experience.

Winner of 9 Sydney Theatre Awards including Best Production, and coming to HOTA following a season at Sydney Opera House, HOTA is the only place in Queensland you’ll be able to catch this killer of a musical. Jump in head – or chainsaw – first.

Featuring an incredible creative team including 2020 Sydney Theatre Award Winner for Best Director of a Musical Alexander Berlage (Cry Baby), Musical Director Andrew Worboys (Sweet Charity, Assassins), Choreographer Yvette Lee (Moonshadow), recipient of multiple Sydney Theatre Awards for Best Set Design Isabel Hudson (Cry Baby), Costume Designer Mason Browne (Cry Baby), and Sound Designer Nicholas Walker (Assassins, Blood Brothers).

‘Sweeney Todd seems civilised compared with Bateman…’ Sydney Morning Herald

‘a level of funny that makes the audience scream at the fabulous too-much-ness of it’ – The Australian

‘At a stroke it makes most musicals seem blunt-edged’ – Sydney Morning Herald

‘Here, without question, Berlage has matched it with his stagecraft, creating a slick, sexy, highly disturbing show that will have you snort laughing into your chardonnay before coward-punching you in the gut.’ – The Guardian

Presented by HOTA, Home of the Arts, BB Arts Entertainment and Two Doors Productions.
