Rostrum West Perth (Club 19) is hosting a workshop “Best Practice Presentations” on 11 June, by Mathew Lane which will address some relatively simple, but effective ways to get your point across for presentations at work.

We’ve all been there: Sitting through a PowerPoint presentation – paragraphs of text on the screen and someone either reading along word-for-word (boring!), or talking about something else (confusing!).

Then there are those who love to embed every text animation, screen transition, and dancing graphic they can find. Or even working with a video unprepared (oh no the sound is not working- hang on. Can someone call IT?)…

And now you have been asked to present something yourself.

You have a choice – you can do the same as all who have come before, OR you can deliver a presentation that is clear, memorable, engaging, and most importantly, get your point across!

PowerPoint as well as other offerings such as Apple’s Keynote, Google Slides, Prezi etc, are a great communication tool, if used well. If we follow just a few simple rules, we’ll have a better chance that the audience won’t be zoning out or playing with their phones.

Whether for formal meetings seeking buy-in from upper management, project updates to your wider team, or even a send-off for a colleague’s retirement, using PowerPoint effectively as an aid to your presentation will keep your audience’s attention, and get your message across.

Workshop: Friday 11 June, 7am for a 7:15 start, finishes at 8:15am.
