Japingka Gallery is delighted to show recent painintgs by Julie Nangala Robinson, the eldest daughter of famed artist Dorothy Napangardi. She has been an artist since the late 1990s and follows in the style of her mother Dorothy, to the extent that she uses minimal and contemporary designs in constructing her artworks. Many of her paintings are based on the Water Dreaming site at Pirlinyanu, which is her traditional country.

The paintings that refer to the Ngapa Tjukurrpa engage images of permanent and seasonal water, and patterns of falling rain, rainclouds building up, storms, waterholes and saltpans.
These ideas are expressed in refined structures that use a few contrasting colours, which highlight the rhythm of water and rain. The silhouette of the Pirlinyanu rock formation is a recurring image in the paintings.

Julie Nangala’s works are highly successful on large scale and several paintings in the exhibition show how well the elements in her works are highlighted on large canvases.
