From the iconic kangaroo and emu to the quiet koala and the cacophonous kookaburra our native animals are a source of wonder. Join award-winning children’s author Claire Saxby sharing onstage her latest story, Kookaburra.

Australia is home to some of the most remarkable animals, many found nowhere else in the world. From the iconic kangaroo and emu to the quiet koala and the cacophonous kookaburra our native animals are a source of wonder. Claire Saxby’s latest book ‘Kookaburra’ is the story of one kookaburra and her family as they prepare for a new season’s nesting and egg laying. Discover what Kookaburra is actually saying in her dawn chorus, learn the secrets of her incredibly accurate hunting and join her family as they care for and protect her. Kookaburras are amazing.

Claire Saxby writes award-winning fiction, non-fiction and poetry for children. Some of her books encompass all three. From big historical stories with strong curriculum links like ‘Haywire’ (NSW Premier’s History Award shortlist 2020), picture books ‘Bird to Bird’ and ‘The Anzac Billy’, to books about iconic Australian animals including ‘Dingo’ and ‘Kookaburra’, to strongly rhythmic works like ‘Seadog’ and ‘There Was an Old Sailor’. Her books aim to engage, entertain, inform and encourage curiosity.
