Boccherini for Market Sunday Concert
The March Music on a Market Sunday concert on at 12:30pm on 28 March in the Uniting Church will feature a performance of Luigi Boccherini’s Stabat Mater, in its original version sung by Soprano Sarah Adeney and a string quintet.
The Stabat Mater was commissioned in 1781, by the King of Spain's younger brother Luis of Spain, Count of Chinchón. It was conceived for a liturgical service at Palacio de la Mosquera, Arenas de San Pedro. The text attributed to Jacopone da Todi dates from the 13th century and meditates on the suffering of Mary during the crucifixion.
Sarah Adeney is a fairly recently arrived Armidale singer and teacher who is making a name for herself for high-quality performances and this is a great opportunity to hear one of Armidale’s best singers.
Admission to the concert is free, though donations are encouraged. CoVid safe social distancing will apply.
