1 in 5 Australians have a disability, yet people with a disability are underrepresented in the media and literature. Growing Up Disabled in Australia gives voice to those who have been left out of discussions and not seen themselves represented in mainstream media.

Carly, Kurt and Belinda will discuss their experiences, the importance of representation and why works like Growing Up are so important.

Carly Findlay is a writer and appearance activist who released her first memoir Say Hello in 2019. She received an Order of Australia for her work in disability advocacy.

Kurt Fearnley is a three-time Paralympic gold medalist and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist. He has won over 40 marathons, written a book, hosted ABC's One Plus One and was named NSW Australian of the Year in 2019.

Belinda Downes is a Newcastle based writer, teacher, language/linguistic scientist, and coffee lover. You may have seen her on ABC’s You Can’t Ask That or a NAB commercial.
