Be Brave and Make Change this Reconciliation Week

The City of Melville wants to embrace the theme of ‘Be Brave and Make Change’ as a part of the broader and ongoing strategy for reconciliation within the City.

The week-long activities will take participants from sharing Noongar stories on the banks of the Bilya (river), through to Noongar language programs for young and old, and cultural walks through Dyoondalup Point Walter.

Leading the program will be Nyin, Ni, Koorliny (Sit, Listen, Walk) for reconciliation on Sunday, 29 May at Dyoondalup Point Walter, where eventgoers can listen to the stories of Elders and walk with them along the beautiful paths from Kwoppa Kepa to Jennalup.

Indigenous Storyteller Shaun Nannup will be welcoming residents for an evening of Noongar stories on the banks of the river at Goolugatup Heathcote, where attendees can enjoy kangaroo stew and damper as they sit around the fire.

Additionally, the City will be welcoming a weekly children’s program on introducing the Noongar language into the vocabulary through the use of traditional storytelling and creative play.
