Melbourne Fringe and Linden New Art are partnering together for a second year to present Design
Fringe with its bold curatorial theme Design the Future: Don’t Waste Time. Design Fringe is an open
access experimental design program that supports artists, designers and makers at all career stages.
This year’s exhibition theme Design the Future: Don’t Waste Time seeks to encourage both designers
and visitors to rethink our relationship with objects, as well as raise awareness to help us to make
better choices about what we buy.
The Design Fringe exhibition features the work of close to 80 designers from across Australia, and
encompasses all types of design such as furniture, lighting, fashion, homewares, ceramics and
textiles. Unique and experimental designs embracing the theme include a repurposed vacuum
cleaner that is now an entertainment device providing sound and music designed by Kaspian Kan as
well as specially commissioned work by First Nations designers Nicole Monks and Mob in Fashion.
Other designers of note in this year’s exhibition include Edward Linacre, Sarah Tracton and Marta
Figueiredo.
