If you remember the tenacity with which you tried to perfect your cartwheels, handstands, somersaults and splits as a kid then you know just how fun a gymnastics program could be these school holidays.

This Easter break, BK’s Gymnastics Hoppers Crossing is offering a range of fully supervised holiday programs for kids of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

BK’s Gymnastics Program manager Laura Sereno said holiday programs were extremely popular because they allowed new kids to try out the sport and gymnastics regulars to supercharge their skills.

“We invite local kids to come and give the sport a try – there’s a reason gymnastics is growing in popularity and has overtaken Aussie football as one of the most popular sports for kids under 12.”

If you’re new to gymnastics, here are Laura’s top 5 tips for getting started these school holidays:

1. Wear comfy clothes, bring a water bottle and if you have long hair tie it up
2. Listen carefully to instructions and watch the demonstrations and try to remember a few of the exercises so you can practice your form at home
3. Give everything a go – your teachers are there to help
4. Remember gymnastics is about learning the basics and building up from there. Don’t expect to be able to do a handstand in your first session, for example. You will, however, start learning a huge range of movement skills that will get you there safely and competently.
5. Come early so you don’t miss the all-important warm-up.
