Freya Josephine Hollick - Xmas Eve

Fresh from the recent release of her acclaimed 3rd album The Real World and the most prolific period of her career, Freya Josephine Hollick launches a limited 7” vinyl single for the song “Spend Your Christmas with Rita,” backed with a gorgeous rendering of the classic “Blue Christmas” at The Northcote Social Club on Xmas Eve with Special guests Headspin, Kerryn Fields and DJ Ernie from 3PBS Swinging Doors.

Recorded in Joshua Tree with Lucinda Williams’ Buick 6, renowned guitarist Greg Leisz (Jackson Browne, Eric Clapton) and her own diamond-sharp Australian band, The Real World delivered a string of highs for this rising queen of outlaw country.

ARIA chart action including a top 10 vinyl entry, a #2 on The Australian Country charts and a #1 on the AIR 100% independent chart, along with album of the week nods from 3PBS, 3RRR, ABC Country and a cover feature on the venerable Rhythms Magazine were highlights among a raft of media attention for the release.

The gas station torch balladry of “Spend Your Christmas With Rita” finds Buick 6 and Freya’s Australian band in full Honeydrippers mode. Freya narrates the faded star story of Rita, a woman in charge of her destiny and in pointed refusal of the patriarchal dilemma.
