Wavey Sessions is a multi-part series showcasing some of the best up-and-coming musicians, with a focus on building an expanding community of support, learning and representation. The series also gives you the opportunity explore some of the unique venues and nightlife around Meanjin.

Khi’leb, rapper extraordinaire, time and time again flexes his unique flows and catchy hooks over modern-wave trap/alt rap beats. There are few artists that can say they’ve been writing music for over a decade before the age of 20, but Khi’leb oozes confidence and maturity in his lyricism, effortlessly translating his mastery of rap and songcraft to the stage. Fresh off the back of his acclaimed debut EP, ‘Project in the Suburbs’, Khi’leb has been cooking up something to set fire to the Wavey stage, so come make sure you see one of the freshest emerging artists in the game before he blows up!

Northern Rivers R&B/soul/rap artist Siala channels their life and deep emotions into their craft in order to heal, and digest pain and isolation (and make some bread). Siala’s originality and powerfully personal lyrics are paramount in their ability to connect through storytelling, melding their diverse range of influences into a cathartic sound that sits confidently in its own lane. Siala’s impressive songwriting range weaves in and out of their distinctive vocal style and effortless flow, exploring industrial issues of being of colour, expressing yourself, growing through trauma, and everything in between.

JVMMY is a multi-disciplinary rapper, DJ, producer and fashion leader, who brings a supernova of creativity and silky smooth bars to the stage. As a favourite in the DJ scene, his tinkering with new-wave sounds is inspired from the self-taught deconstruction of music - a production technique that carries his stylistic range from trap to futuristic RnB. While he plants a seed in the 4K, JVMMY aims to grow his status and expand globally in the near future. Join him in celebrating his new single ‘many nights’ as he paves way for his new direction of melodic sounds and “babymaking” music.

LYDiE is a Meanjin-based singer/songwriter who creates a unique fusion of high-energy and sensual music - her combination of RnB, Afro-Fusion, and Dance music will have you sweating. LYDiE is one to look out for as she heats up the scene with her new-found sense of soul.
