Join Arafura Music Collective, on March 6th and experience the creative genius of women composers in our celebration of International Women’s Day 2022.

Of Stars and Birds' by Yuwaalaraay First Nations composer Nardi Simpson has inspired the program of chamber and vocal works by women composers.

Guest Artistic Director, Brooke Green (Sydney, Australia) has curated a program by women composers to reflect themes of transition and transformation and to muse on the creative impact of country.

The Program
The program includes works by the first western woman to have her madrigals published, one of the earliest published sonatas by a woman composer, one of Australia’s most internationally acclaimed classical composers, the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music (2013), the NT’s most prominent art music composer, and two award-winning First Nations composers and storytellers.
Works by Maddalena Casulana (Venice, Italy) (1544–1590), Isabella Leonarda (Novara, Italy), (1620-1704), Elena Kats-Chernin, (Sydney) Caroline Shaw (USA) Cathy Applegate (NT), Nardi Simpson, Yuwaalaraay First Nations award-winning author, composer and musician, Brenda Gifford, Yuin First Nations composer and musician, and Brooke Green, Guest Artistic Director, viol player and composer.
