The Empire Theatres Foundation presents

Paul Tabone
A World-renowned Australian lyric tenor and dubbed “Australia’s own Bocelli”, Paul Tabone’s story of Queensland farm boy to West End star is one only dreams are made of. After four years performing in London’s West End in the role of Ubaldo Piangi in the Andrew Lloyd Webber production of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, Paul makes his triumphant return to Australia to perform Golden Days: Songs from the Movies and Musicals – a show curated by Paul himself.

The show compliments his recording debut with classical-crossover album ‘This Is Me’, which features his own take on an eclectic mix of songs featured in popular musical and cinematic soundtracks that reflects who he is, now. The album quickly found its way atop the Classical Music Charts in Australia, United Kingdom and the United States only solidifying Paul’s popularity with audiences the world over.

“Golden Days” will take audiences on a heart-warming trip down memory lane featuring much loved classics from the ‘Golden Age’ of music, incorporating singers such as Mario Lanza and Perry Como and songs from Disney all the way to Ennio Morricone including The Loveliest Night of the Year, Granada, E Lucevan Le Stella & O Sole Mio (The Great Caruso), Be My Love (Toast of New Orleans), Serenade (The Student Prince), Music of the Night (The Phantom of The Opera) and many more.

A 2009 graduate of Central Queensland (CQ) University, to one of the world’s largest and most prestigious theatre districts, the glittering West End and beyond, you would be hard placed finding a tenor with a resume as extensive as his, from regional Australia.

From his humbling beginnings as a descendent of Italian immigrants growing up on the sugarcane fields of Far North Queensland, musical theatre has been the life-blood of Tabone.

“This whole journey for me has been somewhat of a dream for me,” says Paul.

Shortly after graduating university, Paul was invited by Signora Nicoletta Mantovani (wife of Luciano Pavarotti) to perform alongside operatic icons, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Ambrogio Maestri, in memoriam for Pavarotti and celebrate the 100th year birthday of Verona Arena in front of a crowd of 20,000.

He has continued to perform internationally in both opera and musical theatre, in roles such as Duca Di Mantova (Rigoletto) at the Opera Naţională București (Romani), Pinkerton (Madam Butterfly) Teatro Del Giglio (Italy). He played the role of Squelch in the brilliant Australian production of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies.

From August 2022, Paul will reprise his role as Ubaldo in the highly anticipated 2022 Australian production of Phantom of the Opera, with seasons announced at the prestigious Sydney Opera House and Melbourne’s Arts Centre.

Paul continues to be a huge advocate for nurturing Australian talent still on the rise, by featuring local and regional talent in his Golden Days production, whilst also often hosting local community masterclasses at local schools sharing Tabone’s own tales and providing advice for a career in theatre.

With a beautifully warm and rounded tone that can cover all material from Bocelli and Pavarotti to high opera; Neapolitan songs, his Caruso is formidable. Come and be mesmerised by the talent that is Paul Tabone.
