Perth Folk and Roots Club is in celebration mode for its tenth birthday at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club on Sunday 27th February 2022 with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. The performances are from 5pm to 8pm at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club, 1 Stancliffe Street, Mount Lawley. For this event, Perth Folk and Roots Club is privileged to have Australian folk legend Kavisha Mazella and Souled Assets.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes the wonderful Kavisha Mazella and Souled Assets to perform at the Club which is celebrating its tenth birthday since starting at the Oxford Hotel in 2012‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Kavisha Mazzella is a passionate Australian singer-songwriter, folklorist, activist and choir leader whose style has gypsy, Mediterranean and Celtic influences. She is also an AM award recipient of the Order of Australia. She won an ARIA Award for Best World Music Album for Fisherman's Daughter produced by Mick Thomas (ex Weddings Parties Anything) in 1998. Kavisha has also released several studio albums independently with her latest being Empty Sky Sacred Songs and Chants. Kavisha was also a member of I Viaggiatori (The Travellers) an Italian folk band which play Italian folk music and independently released one studio album, Suitcase Serenata, in 2010. Kavisha has performed as a singer-songwriter in Australia, Canada, Ireland, USA, Hungary, Slovenia, New Caledonia, Singapore, China and Malaysia. Mazzella collaborated with Angela Chaplin, the theatre director in Deckchair Theatre Company in Fremantle for many years writing and composing music for shows. In 2002 Mazzella together with co-writers Katherine Thomson and Angela Chaplin won a Helpmann Award for Best New Australian Work for Mavis Goes to Timor. Souled Assets is a quartet of established Perth musicians including Greg Cunningham on guitar and vocals, Ken Turner on bass, Dave Lazaro on drums and Rachel Miller on vocals. Greg Cunningham has been playing music for over 35 years in various forms with a current focus on country blues. Greg is a masterful player of a variety of instruments including fingerpicking guitar, slide, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. Greg has also been part of the release of a number of CD’s. Greg has played well-received past performances at Perth Folk and Roots Club and also a radio co host for the Folk and Stuff show for Kalamunda Community Radio.

‘As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience’, Keith added.

Please note the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club is hosting the Perth Folk and Roots Club as a free event for its members and guests with memberships offered at a very reasonable cost to Perth Folk and Roots Club supporters.
