Perth Folk and Roots Club is back at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club on Sunday 25th September 2022 with the support of the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club and City of Stirling. The performances are from 5pm to 8pm at the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club, 1 Stancliffe Street, Mount Lawley. For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Steve Tallis and Catherine Wheels.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes back Steve Tallis from Paris and Catherine Wheels to perform at Perth Folk and Roots Club‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Steve Tallis has recently returned from performing in Paris, France. Steve is Western Australia’s self proclaimed blues shaman who has been performing and recording since the 1960’s and is a major figure in the Perth blues scene. Steve Tallis is well known for a mixture of blues, traditional folk and gospel with a touch of voodoo themes. Steve has produced a number of nationally and internationally acclaimed albums and has also been living and performing in Paris until recently. Steve has lived and performed in the USA, Europe, Mexico and Asia supporting some of the biggest names in music. Influences include Leadbelly, John Coltrane, Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart, Sun Ra, Tony Williams Lifetime, Van Morrison, Howling Wolf, Tom Waits, Jack Bruce, Kip Hanrahan and Bob Dylan. African, Indian, Haitian and Islamic music have all had a spiritual and rhythmic influence. Steve was awarded an Arts WA Contemporary Music Fellowship in 2003 to study, compose and tour with master musicians in Africa, India and Greece. His latest album, Where Many Rivers Meet was released in 2020.

The Catherine Wheels are an acoustic trio, consisting of two well known Perth female vocalists, Cathy Mueller and Catherine Cary and Robert Thorpe on guitar and banjo bringing rhythm, melody and feel for each of their songs. They have been writing their own original alternative country/folk songs for the past three years and have developed their own unique style with rich harmonies and lyrics that are strong, simple and relatable. They describe their music as alternative country with melodies and chorus lines that are catchy and will have you singing along, even if you have never heard their music before. They have been playing at a number of venues including the Market Bar in Fremantle and Lyrics Lane in Maylands as well as some radio play on RTRFM of their upbeat and sometimes thought provoking songs.

‘As always we are also looking for up and coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience’, Keith added.
