The Mystery of Being Here is the largest career survey of Sunshine Coast-based artist, Peter Hudson.

Since the 1990s, Hudson has explored aspects of the natural world through painting and drawing. The landscape has been a constant for Hudson, particularly the Glass House Mountains and hinterland around Maleny where he resides. The moon, ocean, fish, birds and snakes also reoccur in his paintings, analogies for complex systems and relationships in nature including gravity, navigation and migration.

In 1998, Hudson made the first of many trips to the Aboriginal communities of Daguragu and Kalkarindji in Gurindji Country, Northern Territory. So began a decades long association with the Gurindji people that transformed Hudson’s understanding of nature and spirituality and inspired him to make portraits.

The Mystery of Being Here features more than 50 artworks drawn from public and private collections to investigate Hudson’s overarching interest in our relationship to the world around us.
