Songs for the Sea

State Opera of South Australia presents a three-part recital series scheduled across the year with some of the country’s most celebrated chamber musicians and opera singers. State Opera’s Head of Music and Recital Director, Anthony Hunt has assembled a stunning array of opera and classical music talent to bring this series to life. All of which celebrate the beauty of voice, and the powerful inspiration that can be drawn from music.

Songs for the Sea offers an intimate afternoon and brings the ocean to the hills, reminding us that while summers fade, the sea always remains. Performed against the idyllic backdrop of the UKARIA Cultural Centre with Adelaide opera favourites, Desiree Frahn and Pelham Andrews in recital and with celebrated musicians Sharon Grigoryan (cello) and Josh van Konkelenberg (piano), Songs for the Sea features music by Judith Weir, Cecil Armstrong Gibbs, Arvo Pärt, Claude Debussy and Antonín Dvořák.

Not to be missed, Songs for the Sea is set to be a truly magnificent event with the nature of the venue allowing the audience to experience these spectacular artists up close, creating the opportunity for a deep visceral connection between music, audience, and performer.
