Exhibition on view 21 April - 14 May 2022

The State of the Art Quilts is a juried and judged collection of textile art created by members of Queensland Quilters. The Gympie Regional Gallery is honoured to be the first Gallery to exhibit the 2022 collection, before it tours to other Queensland galleries later in the year. Prizes will be awarded by a representative from Bernina Australia, one of the major sponsors of the exhibition. A wide range of techniques is used by the artists, including painting, printing, eco dyeing, collage, hand and machine stitching and more. This particular exhibition has no theme but each work reflects the artist’s personality and popular subjects include nature, social and environmental issues.

To complement the touring quilt exhibition, The Fabric of Gympie will also be on view which will showcase two historical quilts from the Gympie region one dating from 1893. For Gympie, 1893 was the year during which the highest flood was ever recorded, and a young Andrew Fisher won the seat of Gympie in the Queensland Legislative Assembly. The quilt records those momentous events as well as the Wesleyan Conference on many of the blocks. The quilt is generously on loan from the Rotary Club of Gympie.

This is a free opening event officiated by Mayor Glen Hartwig, on Saturday 23 April 2022, from 1pm.

Light afternoon tea will be provided. Bookings are essential.
