Celebrating the world of microtonal music across all genres, Sydney MicroFest returns for the fourth time, with three concerts at Kogarah School of Arts on Sunday, June 12.

A sister event to the prestigious MicroFest (LA) and Euro MicroFest, the music featured in Sydney MicroFest offers audiences the opportunity to experience notes-between-the-notes, promising to ‘open your ears and excite your inner musical experience’, with a multitude of instruments and some pieces triggering electric tones and coloured light.

With no less than twenty esteemed performers throughout the program who are active in Microtonal University (run by the director of the American Festival of Microtonal Music), concert goers have the option of purchasing a Day Pass to all three concerts, or a single pass to a session of their choice:

CONCERT 1 (2.00pm)
‘Diamond Fanfare (Fanfare IV)’ for four horns by Michael Hugh Dixon
Performed by Gergely Malyusz, Annalisa Solinas, Graham Nichols, Michael Hugh Dixon.

‘Piano Piece’ by Warren Summers
Performed by Warren Summers.

‘Colour Chord Chart’ for 10 wine glasses, trombone and sine tones by Amanda Cole
Performed by Amanda Cole, Warren Summers and Gregory van der Struuik.

‘Seven and Nine’ for bassoon with pre-recorded horn ensemble by Michael Hugh Dixon.
Performed by Ben Hoadley.

‘Double’ for solo bassoon by Karl Margetić
Performed by Ben Hoadley.

‘Skullen a Coldie at the Servo with M8tes’ by Peter Thoegersen - a polytempic, polymicrotonal duet for horn and trombone.

Performed by Jess Boyle, Kraig Grady, Joshua Mills, Terumi Narushima, Jars Shead and Jiahon Zhao, with live actions by Hayley Carrick.

CONCERT 3 (7.00pm)
‘Chewing Bread, Company Time Part 1, Company Time Part 2’ by Jack Tickner
Performed by Basil’s Kite.

Tickets are $50 for a Day Pass, with single show tickets $20, on sale now through Eventbrite. There are discounts available for students and concession holders.
