Perth Folk and Roots Club is back with the Tattersalls Folk and Roots series at the Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club on Thursday 11th August 2022 with the support of the Australian Governments Live Music Australia as well as the Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club and City of Perth. The performances are from 6pm to 9pm at Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club, 2 Plain Street, Perth. For this event, Perth Folk and Roots Club has Helen Townsend and Derek Lee Goodreid. Events are free and meals are available through The Kitchen on Cambridge, the in-house caterer who will be providing meals for the event.

‘Perth Folk and Roots Club is back supporting live music in the heart of Perth with the support of the Australian Governments Live Music Australia, City of Perth and the Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club‘, said Keith Anthonisz, President of the Perth Folk and Roots Club.

Helen Townsend is a singer songwriter with a vocal style that has been described as country or contemporary folk with performances at the Perth Blues Club, Mundaring Folk Club and local Fremantle venues like the Norfolk Basement and Clancys Fish Pub and festivals such as Nannup. Nominated for multiple West Australian Music awards including Best Country Act 2019 and 2017. Her single “Upward Now" from her 2019 "Little Lover" album, also received a WAM nomination for Song of The Year 2020. Helen continues to have a huge impact on the country/folk scene in Western Australia, something that is certain to be built on with her new release. Helen’s new EP “Love Lies ‘n’ Leaving”, introduces Shannon Smith and showcases the duo’s vocal harmony. This EP is a typically superlative collection of songs that will further enhance her reputation as a singer, songwriter and live performer.

Derek Lee Goodreid is a rock/blues artist originating from Perth. His gravely vocals and a raw feel makes him live and breath the Blues according to press site Close to Nowhere. Derek Lee Goodreid began his songwriting in his twenties as a confessional exploring his own battle with PTSD, anxiety, and depression with punk acoustic influences. After moving to Norway for love, Derek’s music and lyrics evolved influenced by Jeff Buckley, Elvis Presley, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Cash, and Robert Johnson. Derek’s blues-inspired rockabilly won his newly formed band, Howling Light, a place to compete at Notodden Blues Festival and several festival gigs in Norway and established venues such as Cafe Mono and Buckley’s Blues and Roots Bar. Since then, Derek has released four solo albums and has returned to his home town of Perth, Western Australia. He continues to write, record, and perform his own special brand of Americana, Delta Blues, and Rock with his howling vocals red, hot rocking guitar, and heart of gold.

‘As always we are also looking for up-and-coming artists to do a few numbers for the audience’, Keith added.

Please note the Tattersalls Bowling and Recreation Club is hosting the Perth Folk and Roots Club as a free event for its members and guests with memberships offered at a very reasonable cost to Perth Folk and Roots Club supporters.
