Betting on the horses is a mugs game.

In the world of small-time crime in Melbourne, bumbling criminals Noddy and Big Ears stumble their way through life, stupidly and by chance. Noddy’s disability wins him good fortune and leads him to inadvertently make the wrong decisions. Big Ears is not the smartest bloke around town.

Noddy and Big Ears are on the run from the criminal world that wants them whacked. Their final job, which, on the surface appears to go well, leads them on a journey of comical and dramatic avoidance techniques.

Join us for a rehearsed playreading of THE WRONG HORSE, written by colourful Ballarat-based poet, playwright and singer Marty MonStar - featuring a stellar cast, that includes Darren Mort as Noddy and Dom Phelan as Big Ears, with David Hugh Macrae, Ian Rooney and Helene Dunlop.

“I really wanted to write a play that explored mateship and co-dependency” says Marty “Noddy and Big Ears really need each other, literally to survive. They have that kind of chemistry that can’t be found in a laboratory, but they also have the collective IQ of a farm gate.”

Marty MonStar’s previous work has been supported by staged readings and performances with La Mama Theatre, Cracked Actors Theatre and Long Play, and nominated for awards, including Best Comedic Writing for The Hang Up during the 2020 Summer Reading Series with Cracked Actors. Marty also runs the monthly Ballarat Spoken Word and has two published books of poetry. His most recent play The Reunion just completed a successful premiere run at The MC Showroom.
