Two Minutes From Home

Decibel New Music Ensemble like many other ensembles and art organisations, had its activity for 2020 cancelled.

2 Minutes from Home is what they did instead - commissioning 2-minute works from artists we have worked with in the past – one work per fortnight from July to December 2020. Each work was presented as a video release distributed via social media, showing the ensembles playing their parts in their homes, alongside the score. Each new work is created for the Decibel ScorePlayer, an iPad application developed by the ensemble to enable the coordinated reading of graphic notations. Listeners can follow the music as the musicians play it and enjoy the wide range of notational approaches composers will bring. We are all making and experiencing music apart, together.

Now – Decibel are performing these new works live for the first time, as a single 60-minute Perth world premiere program at Luna Palace Cinemas in Leederville WA. You can see the video from the original release and the live performers on stage. Be prepared for a wide range of musical styles, performance approaches, and snippets of interviews from the artists between tracks.

The videos have been streamed as single live streaming presentation in Canada at the Festival Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques in February 2021, and Earth Day Art Model in the USA in April 2021 and live for the first time at the Revelation Film Festival in Perth this year.
