Vulgar Display of Power - 30th Anniversary Tribute

On February 25th, 1992, the word "heavy" got a new definition. For that was the day that Texas metal legends Pantera dropped their second major-label album VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER, onto an unsuspecting world. The impact is still being felt 30 years later.

WA trendkillers THE WESTERN TRENDKILL pay homage to PANTERA with a 30TH ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE one of metal’s defining albums in the 90s “VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER” at AMPLIFIER BAR in PERTH on SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2022.

Joining in on the celebrations for one of metal’s all-time great albums will be DESTRUCTION SYMPHONIES and ALICE IN A NUTSHELL performing the best of MEGADETH and ALICE IN CHAINS.

Pantera’s bestselling album carries the classic Pantera sound: aggressive, groovy, and heavy. After the release of Cowboys From Hell (1990), Pantera’s style shifted away from glam metal towards a more thrash direction, influenced by bands such as Slayer, Metallica and Black Sabbath. Vulgar Display of Power, the follow-up album to Cowboys From Hell, was a reiteration of this new musical direction.

This album was, according to some, the heaviest Pantera album ever. When Metallica fans and critics were mourning the band’s previous thrashier style before 1991, Pantera fans received a pleasant surprise with Vulgar Display of Power. (www.classicrockhistory.com)

Vulgar Display Of Power changed the game for American metal. The album’s thick grooves, dirtbag swagger, and dark, introspective subject matter helped redefine what heavy metal could be. It spoke to everyday metal fans, who didn’t want to give up their heavy riffs to alternative rock but were sick of detached songs about death and Satan.
